NORTHWEST COLORADO RANGERS

NEWSLETTER     MARCH, 2009

This year the Rangers decided to stage our first match of year in March, one month earlier than usual.  While weather can be “iffy” this time of year, we had a fine, sunny day for shooting, with no wind and comfortable temperatures in the 40s.  Seems like a lot of folks had other commitments, though, and we had just six participants.  Didn’t matter ho many were there, we had a good time.

Match director Sagebrush Burns designed a four stage which required only one lay out.  That simplified set-up and tear-down and allowed us do it all in just about three hours total.  Each stage had different movements and shooting orders so there was plenty of variety.

Scrap Iron from Steamboat shot with us for the first time and joined Colorado Hank, Soda Creek Jack, The Powder Wash Kid, Black Mountain Cat and Sagebrush Burns.  Soda Creek Jack whupped us all and took home Cadillac Escalade grand prize.

Regular monthly matches will continue on the fourth Saturday of the month, June through September.  We have set our schedule for 2009.

            April 25 – monthly match

May 23 & 24 – annual “Where the Old West Stayed Young” match

            June 27 – monthly match

            July 25 – monthly match

            August 22 – monthly match

            September 26 – monthly match

The theme for this year’s annual match will be the movie “Maverick” and we’re looking forward to having some fun with Bret and Annabelle and the rest…  To contact match director The Powder Wash Kid, send your e-mail to:  wtowsy2009@yahoo.com.

We are always on the lookout for ideas for stages and side matches for our monthly and annual matches.  The Rangers feel that one of our strengths is that many different folks contribute and that keeps us fresh.  If you’ve got something you’d like to try, let us know.  If it can be done safely and won’t contribute to economic disaster or illegal immigration we’ll likely give it a try.

As always, we’d like to hear from you if you have thoughts or ideas to help us do a better job.  Keep up with the Rangers on the Bears Ears Sportsman Club (BESC) web site at:  www.bearsears.org.

Thanks,

Sagebrush Burns
