NORTHWEST COLORADO RANGERS

NEWSLETTER     MAY, 2008

Over Memorial Day week-end, May 24th and 25th, the Rangers staged our 23rd annual “Where the Old West Stayed Young” match.  There were 96 shooters signed up to participate, but inclement weather on the east side of the continental divide caused some last minute cancellations and no-shows and we ended up with 88 shooters for the match.  While the weather was somewhat chilly (especially on Saturday) the crowd was warm and the shooting was red-hot fun.  Cartoons was the match theme this year and everyone wore their “fun face” for the match:  George of the Jungle swung on his vine, Popeye ate his spinach, Wiley Coyote dynamited Roadrunner and more…

The Friday set-up crew turned in their usual excellent job.  Special thanks are in order for a few folks.  Red River Wrangler and Sweet Lil came over early and put in a full days effort.  Arapaho Dog Soldier from Seattle was there all day.  Rusty S Potts, Winterhawk, and Maybell Maverick helped big-time even though they could not participate in the match.  The Some Dense Kid and Outa Place (the Rangers founder and his wife) worked all day Friday, ran the Derringer and Pocket Pistol side matches and did all the match scoring.  Everyone helped break down the match after lunch on Sunday and the job was done quickly and very well.  Many thanks to all who helped – we couldn’t do it without you.

Regular monthly matches will continue on the fourth Saturday of the month, June through September.  We have set our schedule for 2008.

June 28 – monthly match – Thataway Gal

July 26 – monthly match – Soda Creek Jack

August 23 – monthly match – Powder Wash Kid

September 27 – monthly match – The Some Dense Kid

We are always on the lookout for ideas for stages and side matches for our monthly and annual matches.  The Rangers feel that one of our strengths is that many different folks contribute and that keeps us fresh.  If you’ve got something you’d like to try, let us know.  As always, we’d like to hear from you if you have thoughts or ideas to help us do a better job.  Keep up with the Rangers on the Bears Ears Sportsman Club (BESC) web site at:  www.bearsears.org.

Thanks,
