NORTHWEST COLORADO RANGERS

NEWSLETTER     AUGUST 2007

The Rangers tried something just a bit different last month:  one of our stages was shot by two man teams.  We based the scenario on the final gunfight from the movie Open Range.  One of the shooters was Charley Waite and the other was Boss Spearman.  If you shot with us in April or May you’ll remember that we did a regular stage based on that fight and this was similar.  Charley (who used his pistols and rifle) started the fight by blowing Butler’s head off and Boss (using his pistols and shotgun) finished it emptying his second pistol on Denton Baxter.  Partners alternated shooting strings and moved together across the stage.  It was interesting and fun to try a different approach to shooting a stage.

After the rain slowed down on Friday afternoon set-up went quickly due to the efforts of Rusty S. Pots, That Away Gal, Black Mountain Cat, Desperado James, Little Wolf, Sagebrush Burns, Winterhawk, Randall Durkop and Colorado Hank.  Everything was set up in the Silhouette and South Bays and we tore each stage down when we finished shooting it.  Everybody helped and clean-up was done in a snap.  Black Mountain Cat and The Some Dense Kid got scoring taken care of when we finished shooting.  Special thanks to Marilyn Henderson for entering scores, Ron Stoffle (Maybell Maverick) for running the unloading table, and Randall Durkop for brassing, counting hits and misses and set-up and tear-down.

We were blessed with another beautiful, sunshiny day, although it was humid.  The weather gods have treated us right so far in 2007.

Regular monthly matches will continue on Saturday, August 25th with  one stage consisting of entirely knock-down targets and Colorado Hank running long range side matches after the main match, and our season finale will be Saturday, September 22nd.  We look forward to the fun and the challenges.

As always, we’d like to hear from you if you have thoughts or ideas to help us do a better job.  Keep up with the Rangers on the Bears Ears Sportsman Club (BESC) web site at:  www.bearsears.org.

Thanks,

Sagebrush Burns
